2852: LNER D47/D48 51FT 1 1/2 INCH FULL FIRST SIDES (STANDARD DROPLIGHTS)

This range of etched sides can be used with other parts from the MJT range to create a metal model of a Gresley teak bodied coach. Alternatively they can be used as the basis of a scratch built model or to adapt a suitable donor vehicle (see for example Model Rail February 2006 - Done in a Trice). The sides are 'multi layered' allowing detail such as beading to be represented accurately. Cast door ventilator hoods, etched hinges and handles are supplied with the sides. Vehicles can be made to complement other proprietary offerings so that authentic formations can be modelled. The instructions give details of build dates, livery, numbering, etc. Built between 1925 and 1936 the stand alone non-corridor firsts used both turnbuckle and Welded steel trussing.

This body shell also featured in a number of twin articulated units built in 1929 and 1930. Notably:-
• D124 - 126 Third plus First. Paired with third class vehicle using same body shell as MJT 2851.

A non-corridor first to a very similar design appeared in some later articulated sets. Notably:-
• D242 Third plus First. Paired with the same third class body shell as the D124 (above) the first can be readily modified to the correct specification, see instructions.

To make a complete coach the modeller should consider:
MJT 2850 Underframe, MJT 2805T or MJT 2805A Underframe Detailing Kit, MJT 2853 Coach Ends, MJT 2871S Roof, MJT 2940 Roof Ventilators, MJT 2854 Internal Partitions, MJT 2411 Cosmetic Bogies, MJT 2223 or MJT 2556 Compensated or Rigid Rigie Frames, MJT 2580 NEM Coupling Tongue , MJT 7030 Bogie Step Boards and MJT 2332SA or 2333S Sprung Buffers

The trussing on later, articulated vehicles was obviously longer. Consider using MJT 2800TA MJT 2800AUnderframe Detailing Kit along with MJT 2229 Compensated Articulation Joint,
