S107M: METROPOLITAN T59 5 COMPARTMENT BRAKE THIRD

Diagram T59 5 Compartment Brake Third. LE4MW 'Metro' Profile (Lewis System).

31 ft 3/4 in Body, 19 ft 0 in wheelbase, 8 ft 6 in wide.

Designed to be used with the Ratio 613 long chassis (cut and shut).

In the 1890s around 200 four wheel coaches were built by the GWR to 6 diagrams for ‘inner London services’. At this time the GWR ran steam trains over the Hammersmith & City, the Main Line & City and Circle lines; now part of the London Underground. They were mainly built as dedicated, close-coupled sets of 8 or 9 vehicles. These coaches are usually referred to as 'Holden' designs after the GWR carriage superintendent James Holden. The design followed an earlier 'Holden' pattern, lower and wider that contemporary GWR coaches to optimize capacity within the Underground loading gauge. Doors had curved upper frames so that they could be opened in tunnels should the train need to be evacuated. See also Diagram R3 S125and Diagram S17 S106M

Etched ends to the correct profile are supplied with the sides. The Three Arc (Elliptical) roof supplied with the Ratio kit is 2 mm too narrow and has to be widened (by cutting it in half and inserting a length of 2 mm strip). Shire Scenes can supply a cast resin roof S183 specifically for this vehicle having the correct length, width, rainstrip and 3 arc profile.

Optionally, cast springs and axleboxes (MJT 2258), sprung buffers (MJT 2335S) and gas lamp tops (MJT 2945) are also available. Note: if converting a Ratio kit, the gas lamp tops will have to be replaced as the existing ones are moulded into the roof in the wrong places for this vehicle.

(OO Gauge / 4mm Scale)

Grey parts on diagram are from Ratio kit.
